Extracts are also known as tinctures or infusions. Alcohol is most commonly used, due to its volatility and speed of extraction, but alcohol-based extracts become biologically inactive because the alcohol denatures the active components. In order to preserve the most valuable properties of the plant, another alcohol, glycerol, is used as an extracting agent. Glycerol-based extracts may be referred to as glycerites. Our glycerine-based products have several advantages over alcohol-based tinctures:

  • Glycerites are ideal for those who choose not to drink alcohol for religious, scientific or personal reasons.
  • Unlike alcohol, glycerol does not denature or render inert many biologically important botanical components.
  • Glycerol-based plant extracts help to preserve the full integrity of the original plant used to make the product, due to the microencapsulation of glycerol from the extracted components and ingredients.

Raspberry leaf extract is a broad-spectrum extract with great potential. The healing properties of raspberries and their use in teas have long been known. More recently, studies have been carried out on the effects of raspberry leaf extract on the ageing process and in the fight against cancer.

In cosmetics, this plant extract is used in skin care products. Raspberry leaf is a natural skin tightening agent, and due to this skin firming property it is effective in stopping ageing and is also useful in reducing pores. Another anti-ageing property of raspberry leaves is the polypeptides they contain, which help smooth the skin. Tannins are also present in raspberry leaves, which reduce irritation, inflammation and swelling. Raspberry leaf extract is very commonly used in natural cosmetics, anti-ageing products, insect repellents, cosmetic products for burns or inflammation. Raspberry leaf extract has a very mild, delicate, slightly sweet smell. It is particularly suitable for those who do not like pungent odours. Ideal for all skin types, but particularly recommended for oily complexions. Raspberry leaf glycerite tones, moisturises and soothes the complexion and is anti-inflammatory, making it ideal for acne-prone, reddened skin. Suitable for cleansing oily skin. Recommended concentrations range from 1% to 20% depending on the type of product. Functions (INCI)

  • Skin conditioning: maintains good skin condition

In livestock farming raspberry leaf extract is used in various veterinary skin care and teat care products, both pre- and post-milking.
