The strongest alkali is considered to be sodium hydroxide 50%, which is so concentrated that it does not work without dilution with water.
The choice depends on the application: for very heavy grease contamination, sodium hydroxide is recommended, for household cleaning: sodium carbonate, for soil alkalisation: calcium hydroxide or potassium carbonate.
The most popular alkalis are: sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), sodium carbonate (soda ash), potassium carbonate (potash carbonate) and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).
