Polyquaternium 7 is a long-chain quaternary ammonium surfactant often found as an antistatic agent and/or film former.

In cosmetics, polyquaternium 7 is used in hair care products. Polyquaternium 7 is a quaternary ammonium used in cosmetics for its antistatic properties.

It is a cationic surfactant. It is commonly used as a film-forming agent in hair and nails, as well as a fixative and antistatic agent in hair care products. This ingredient is often used in hair care products instead of, and sometimes in combination with, silicones. The liquid compound is clear or pale yellow in colour. Polyquaternium 7 is very good at detangling the hair and provides a slippery texture to facilitate wet combing. It also adds softness and shine to dry hair. Polyquaternium-7 is used as a modifier in products such as shampoos, hair conditioners, hair mousse, soaps, hair gels, styling products, shaving products, deodorants and antiperspirants. The absorption of moisture from the air gives "conditioning" properties to products containing copolymer. Recommended rates range from 0.2% to 5% by weight of the final product. Key features INCI:

In the cleaning industry, polyquaternium-7 is used as an antistatic agent. It is commonly found in plastic cleaners and carpet cleaners, not only to clean carpets, but also to make them soft and to eliminate unpleasant odours.

In agriculture,polyquaternium 7 is authorised for use as an inert ingredient in non-food pesticide products. The compound helps to form a long-lasting film and helps the active ingredients to remain on the plant for longer.

In wastewater treatment, polyquaternium-7 is used to break down emulsions, resulting in the separation of both the fatty and aqueous phases from each other. For sludge dewatering to produce sludge with a higher solids content and lower emulsified water content. It is a cationic polyelectrolyte. This product can be used as a retention agent in the paper industry and for the dewatering of fibrous sewage sludge. It is used for the treatment of various mineral mixtures during mining and mineral processing. It is also used for oil-water separation, dehydration of crude oil and treatment of oil effluents in oil fields and refineries.

In veterinary medicine, polyquaternium 7 is used as an ingredient in a variety of veterinary preparations for animal coat care. Due to its low toxicity and high inertness, the product is used to produce non-allergenic shampoos/conditioners.

In the textile industry, PQ7 is used during the manufacturing process as a fixative, conditioning agent, making fabrics soft and fluffy. Its low toxicity makes polyquaternium 7 more suitable for use compared to BAC or DDAC analogues. In some cases PQ7 is a superior product compared to cetrimonium chloride.
