Peroxides

Peroxides are chemical compounds that contain two oxygen atoms linked by a so-called peroxide bond (O–O). This structure is unstable and easily decomposes, releasing active oxygen, which is why peroxides have strong oxidizing properties.

The most commonly used compounds are hydrogen peroxide and organic peroxides, which are widely used for cleaning, disinfection, and bleaching. Peroxides effectively destroy microorganisms, so they are used for treating surfaces, water, textiles, and wood.

Properties and Uses of Peroxides

Peroxides are particularly valued for their ability to rapidly release oxygen during a chemical reaction. This allows them to be used in sanitation, eco-friendly cleaning technologies, and other areas where a rapid oxidative effect is required.

Although peroxides are effective, their storage requires special attention. Some peroxide compounds can be unstable and sensitive to environmental factors, so it is necessary to adhere to strict safety requirements.
