Extracts are also known as tinctures or infusions. Alcohol is most commonly used, due to its volatility and speed of extraction, but alcohol-based extracts become biologically inactive because the alcohol denatures the active components. In order to preserve the most valuable properties of the plant, another alcohol, glycerol, is used as an extracting agent. Glycerol-based extracts may be referred to as glycerites. Our glycerin-based products have several advantages over alcohol-based tinctures:
- Glycerites are ideal for those who choose not to drink alcohol for religious, scientific or personal reasons.
- Unlike alcohol, glycerin does not denature or render inert many biologically significant botanical components.
- Glycerol-based plant extracts help to preserve the full integrity of the original plant used to produce the product, due to the micro-encapsulation of glycerol from the extracted components and ingredients.
