In agriculture, urea is a popular nitrogen fertilizer worldwide, suitable for a wide range of field, vegetable and garden crops. It is applied to field and garden crops before sowing and to winter and perennial crops at the beginning of the growing season. Fruit trees and shrubs are fertilized through the leaves before flowering: the spray kills pest eggs, caterpillars and disease agents (aphids, apple aphids, apple maggots, mites, etc.). The urea granules are white, free of any extraneous impurities and sprayed with anti-caking agents. Urea belongs to the group of environmentally friendly fertilizers.
It is used as a supplementary fertilizer during spring and summer.

In the chemical industry, urea-formaldehyde resins and urea-melamine-formaldehyde are used in the production of marine plywood. Urea is also used as a stabilizer/water softener in various detergent formulations.
In pyrotechnics, urea can be used to produce urea nitrates, high explosive devices. It is a stabilizer for nitrocellulose explosives.
In automobiles, urea is used in SNCR and SCR to reduce NOx pollutants in the exhaust gases of diesel, dual-fuel and low-calorie natural gas engines. For example, the BlueTec system is a water-based urea solution for the exhaust system. The ammonia produced by the hydrolysis of urea reacts with nitrous oxide, thus protecting the atmosphere from nitrogen oxides. The most widely known name is ADD BLUE.
In laboratories, urea at concentrations up to 10 M is a strong protein denaturant because it disrupts non-covalent bonds in proteins. This property can be used to increase the solubility of some proteins. A mixture of urea and choline chloride is used as a deep eutectic solvent.
In the energy sector, urea can be a source of hydrogen for energy production in fuel cells. Urea in urine/sewage can be used directly (although bacteria usually break it down very quickly). In fire extinguishers, it is used in dry powder filler as a mixture of urea potassium bicarbonate.
