In agriculture, urea is a popular nitrogen fertilizer worldwide, suitable for a wide range of field, vegetable and garden crops. It is applied to field and garden crops before sowing and to winter and perennial crops at the beginning of the growing season. Fruit trees and shrubs are fertilized through the leaves before flowering: the spray kills pest eggs, caterpillars and disease agents (aphids, apple aphids, apple maggots, mites, etc.). In automobiles, urea is used in SNCR and SCR to reduce NOx pollutants in the exhaust gases of diesel, dual-fuel and low-calorie natural gas engines.
