Shea butter is a fat (triglycerides, the five essential fatty acids palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and arachidic) extracted from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). When untreated, it is ivory in colour. It is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturising cream, ointment or lotion. It is sometimes mixed with other oils as a substitute for cocoa butter, although the taste differs markedly.
In cosmetics, this natural emollient, approved by COSMOS, with a high content of unsaponified substances, offers many advantages for skin and hair care cosmetic products thanks to its valuable composition of fatty acids, natural tocopherols, allantoin and beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A (retinol). Shea butter is produced by mechanical extraction, making it suitable for natural certified preparations.
Product benefits:
- Natural emollient
- High content of unsaponifiable substances
- Many applications
- Controlled production ensuring extreme purity
- and the highest quality
Shea butter oil is the ideal softening, protective, nourishing and emollient balm for dry skin - Body lotions and body butters, hand and foot creams, lip care, sunscreens and after-sunscreens, hair care, luxury soaps, functional ointments, deodorants. Absorbs more easily into wet skin, so we recommend moisturising with water or a hydrating lotion.

Terpene alcohols | Protects the skin; therapeutic and disinfectant effect |
Phytosterols | Stimulates and regenerates cells |
Cinnamic acid esters | UVB filters; therapeutic and disinfectant properties |
Natural vitamins | |
Vitamin A (retinol) | Stimulates collagen production; improves skin elasticity and regenerative properties |
Vitamin E (tocopherol) | Slows ageing; improves skin microcirculation |
Vitamin F (linoleic acid) | Regulates the skin's moisture content and strengthens the skin's natural barrier |
Shea butter oil is suitable for topical massage of specific parts of the body - joints, hands, legs and feet. It is very fragrant. For a full-body massage, one is a little too hard, but adding 10-30% of any liquid unrefined oil (e.g. rosehip, sesame) makes it even harder. This mixture should not be made by heating or soaking, but simply by whisking in a bowl. Recommended use rates are 1-20 %, both in the rinsed products and in the residue. Functions (INCI)
- Skin conditioning: maintains good skin condition
- Viscosity control: increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetics
