Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline purine, a methylxanthine alkaloid chemically bonded to the adenine and guanine bases of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). This compound is well known as an active ingredient in coffee or tea.

In the food industry, caffeine is used as a central nervous system stimulant that gives an invigorating effect. It is most commonly found in energy drinks and energy candy. Pure caffeine is found as a sports supplement to burn fat tissue faster, help muscles recover after workouts, and improve athletic performance. The most commonly used doses are 200mg (0.2g) per day, in exceptional cases up to 400mg (0.4g) per day, but do not exceed this as side effects such as insomnia, anxiety, dizziness, etc. start to increase and lead to a deterioration of sporting performance.
