Monoethanolamine borate is also known as organic boron or liquid boron. It is an excellent source of boron in all applications where harmless alternatives are sought. More recently, it has been used as an analogue of boric acid or borax.

In agriculture, MEA borate is used as an organic source of boron. On the one hand, this compound is non-toxic (compared to boric acid or borax), on the other hand, it is in liquid form and easily soluble in water. As it is an organic form, it is much more readily taken up by plants than the mineral form. Boron is a very important element for plants, influencing the entry of water into the cells, the development and germination of pollen, fruit and foliage. It is also important in the transport of sugars within the plant, which ensures proper plant growth. Deficiency of boron leads to severe metabolic disturbances in the plant, such as deformation of the plant's growth, abnormal development of fruit and foliage, disturbances in the development of the reproductive parts of the plant, death of the growth cones, and finally, death of the plant itself.

Use for fertilisation:For foliar top-dressing of fruit trees (especially stone fruit), berry plants, potatoes, strawberries, carrots and other vegetables. Balanced fertilisation is essential for optimal plant growth.

Standard: 10-20 ml/4 L of water/1 acre. Caution: risk of overdose! When spraying over the leaves, do not spray a solution stronger than 0.8%. Observe the recommended spray area!

Do not spray: in direct sunlight or at temperatures higher than +25^oC.

In cosmetics, monoethanolamine borate is used as a buffer to prevent pH changes in formulations. It maintains a pH between 7 and 8,7. The use of this compound is convenient in that it will not lead to an aggressive pH and it will not change significantly, even with changes in ambient pH or product ageing. Its non-toxicity makes it more acceptable than borax or boric acid.

In metalworking Boron monoethanolamine is used for machining metal surfaces to obtain higher hardness. It can also be used for hardening metals.

In the paper industry MEA borate is used as an alternative to boric acid or borax. Boron is used as an adhesion promoter to help starch-based adhesives adhere to the paper surface. Boric acid or borax are classified as toxic compounds and therefore require appropriate safety precautions and permits, whereas with organic borate, these precautions are not necessary and the product produced no longer has a "toxic trace".

In the petroleum industry, monoethanolamine borate is used as a component in the manufacture of lubricants. It increases slip and viscosity, resulting in improved lubrication and reduced friction. It can also be used in hydraulic fluids designed to crush rock to reduce friction during transport of the fluid itself.
